Everyday Hero..

My name is Yansy Paredes, and I believe I am an everyday hero. My childhood, in retrospect, was very quick. I remember that I had to be independent and sophisticated at the age of 6. My parents would always leave me in charge of my two younger brothers; meanwhile they were out working. I practically became their 2nd mom because my parents separated and my mom was out of the picture, so the only person that they felt that they could rely on was me. You could say that I was despondent of the circumstances I was living in, but in reality I was resilient; I figured that I would only see the positive side. We had our ups and downs, but holidays seemed to be the WORST for us. We don't have any relatives in this country, so we couldn't say things like "Hey, I want to go to grandma's house" or "Can I sleep over my aunt's house so I could play with my cousins?" That is why the holidays may have been a detriment for us. We used to spend the holidays at other people's houses, they usually were friends of my parents, but to us they were strangers. Looking back, I feel like that is what made us estrange from social interactions. In transition, I was happy that I could have great connections with my brothers. I like to think that I was their hero when bad times approached. I had to become an optimum role model because younger children tend to imitate a lot. I didn't want them to look up to a person who lacked  common sense and would guide them to a wrong path. I try to be the best person I could be, I don't like problems because I feel that things could be resolved in a scrupulous manner, but that doesn't mean I won't fight for what I think is right.  My brothers had picked up that attitude also, and as they're growing up they're getting to see the world in many perspectives. My duty now is to make sure that they're making wise choices and reminding them that they have a sister who is supporting them on every step of the way.

  4. I don't have family here either so Christmas and new years were always different and my family and i would go to at least 3 different houses to celebrate because we had little family here. It's a good thing that you became a positive role model for your siblings!
