Keenan Carter

I Am My Hero

Hi, my name is Keenan Carter. I don’t look at myself everyday and think I’m a hero but after reading most of this book I realize that when I look into my past I am my own hero.  During 11th grade my parents told me and my sister that they were getting divorced now I didn’t go crying or thinking that it would affect me but I was very wrong. By the middle of the school year I had dropped out of two honors classes that I could have passed with my eyes closed, I was so overwhelmed by my parent’s divorce that I just sat in class doing nothing. The affect of this divorce was weighing heavily on me and I didn’t like it at all my grades were horrible and I had classes that I had to take over to be able to graduate so I finished my 11th grade year with B’s and C’s. During the summer I vowed to myself that I would graduate and pass all my classes with an A or B and leave all the divorced negativity behind me. When senior year arrived I hit the ground running turning in every assignment and knocking out the classes I had to make up. I worked so hard my first semester of senior year that I only had two classes in the second semester Spanish and Track, which wasn’t even a class it was just my sport at school. I believe that somewhere along the line of all my negative energy I pulled the strength to pick myself up and be strong for me because there wasn’t anyone else to help me and not only was I being strong for myself but once my energy changed my little sisters energy changed and became positive as well so I had to do it for her to because I knew she was watching. While I was finding my path I also found myself enjoying a pass time that I used to have as a kid which was drawing and found that I’m so good at it that I want to pursue this as my career so I’m majoring in art so I can study abroad in japan and become a mangaka and create manga’s. Believe it or not this is my art drawing of myself.

  1. your story was encouraging since you were able to take a step back and view the situation as to how it was effecting you .That shows maturity and you have a sensitive heart since you were moved to do some things for your sister. This will safeguard you if you continue to consider others ,,,,,,lets talk

  2. I went through the same things throughout my high school years. Basically the same situation, but it took me onger to get over it. You stepped up to the plate and handled the situation correctly and motivated yourself to do well for yourself. so youa re a hero.

  3. Your story and how you considered yourself a hero not only for yourself but also for your sister is really touching. You went through a difficult struggle in high school that caused you to bring your grades down but you looked passed the negative things and brought yourself and your grades up. You are a great hero.

  4. I found your story really inspiring. It's a good thing that you realized how bad it was affecting your life because I've had friends who unfortunately still struggle with family problems. This shows that anyone can overcome obstacles that seem impossible

  5. I like your quote, "During the summer I vowed to myself that I would graduate and pass all my classes with an A or B and leave all the divorced negativity behind me." Just keep going and you'll succeed in whatever you do because you know how to lift yourself when a problem arises. Good luck in pursuing your goals!
